Karen Nelson Bell Presents Women of the World
"Women of the World" is an anthem in tribute to the strength, courage, and power of women all over the world. It represents a plea for those of us who are blessed to live in freedom to use our collective woman wisdom for the attainment of the betterment of women (and their children) who are oppressed, no matter where they live.
I wrote the lyrics with the help of a few friends, and when I wrote the music, I decided to make the song impossible for just one woman to sing, so that it would forever demonstrate the possibilities when we join hands to help one another.
I dedicate this song to raising awareness of the principles contained within the document written by Eleanor Roosevelt, "The International Declaration of Human Rights."
Here are the lyrics to the song for you to enjoy:
WOMEN OF THE WORLD

INTRO:
I hear your voice calling me,
Honest and plain.
No glory for your suffering,
No virtue in your pain.
How many times have these stars flown by
Since I first heard you cry?
How many times has this moon swept low,
When I said that I don’t know
What I can do for you…
Well, now I do.
I turned my back,
Didn’t offer my hand,
I must not have seen your eyes.
But I can’t ignore my
Sister on the shore;
The tide will rise,
We realize:
VERSE:
From African plains to Tibetan peaks
The world calls us to stand, as loudly it speaks
To our minds, to our hearts, asking us to reach out
Hear the voice of the world, in a whisper, a shout...
We nurture... we love... we learn while we teach
The world needs us now, as hungry arms reach
Will history reveal we have given our best
To the children in need and all of the rest?
CHORUS:
WOMEN OF THE WORLD, THEY’RE CALLING ON US NOW.
WOMEN OF THE WORLD, WE’VE GOT TO HELP SOMEHOW.
WE DON’T WANT OUR CHILDREN TO DIE
WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING WHY.
WOMEN OF THE WORLD, WE’VE GOT TO TAKE A STAND.
WOMEN OF THE WORLD, HAND IN HAND.
VERSE:
From primitive forests to desolate sands,
The world calls for help, extending its hands
To our strength and our spirit, asking us to begin,
Mend the wounds of the world, determine to win...
We are reason...and passion...and conscience today
The world needs our gifts, we must not delay.
Will destiny lead us to do what we must
To overcome all that is wrong and unjust? Come on now,
VERSE:
We are instinct...intelligence...life force in motion,
Throughout all the earth, from mountain to ocean.
Stop the pain, heal the world, until all tears are dried,
Humanity's mantle... let us wear it with pride
CHORUS:
WOMEN OF THE WORLD, TOGETHER WE BELONG.
WOMEN OF THE WORLD, TOGETHER WE ARE STRONG.
WE DON’T WANT OUR CHILDREN TO DIE
WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING WHY.
WOMEN OF THE WORLD, WE’VE GOT TO TAKE A STAND.
WOMEN OF THE WORLD, HAND IN HAND.
